During a session, or outside opening hours, we may not be able to answer at once. If it is urgent, or you would like us to call you back, please leave your name and number on the voicemail. We will call back during opening hours.

What to include in your email

  • First and second choice of date and time (a range such as 14:00-16:00 is helpful)
  • Number of guests (for two or more: twin room or separate rooms). Rooms are limited and may not be available as requested.
  • Course: 60, 90 or 120 minutes
  • Practitioner: no preference, 3rd generation, 4th generation, or the name of another practitioner (rates differ only for the 3rd or 4th generation)
  • Your name and phone number
  • Areas of concern, or areas to avoid (pregnancy, medical conditions)

You will receive an automatic reply, in Japanese and English, confirming that your email has arrived. It is not a confirmed booking; our staff will reply in English with available times during opening hours. If the automatic reply does not arrive, please check your spam folder (our email comes from @namikoshi-shiatsu.co.jp).

Emails that reach us between 11:00 and 19:00 JST are answered the same day wherever possible. Emails that arrive outside those hours are answered in order from 11:00 JST. If you have not heard from us by 19:00 JST the next day, please check your spam folder, then call +81-3-3581-7354.

Outside opening hours, please email us. We reply in order from 11:00 JST.

Reservations by phone (+81-3-3581-7354) or email (reservation@namikoshi-shiatsu.co.jp; namikoshi-shiatsu.co.jp is the domain of the operating company). No online booking.

You may email us in any language; we reply in English or Japanese. On the phone and on the day of your visit, we can help you in simple English.

We keep no online booking calendar, for three reasons: so that no guest’s visit can be read off an open diary; so that every enquiry comes through the same door and is handled the same way; and so that we can ask what you need before we set the time.

Why we take reservations only by phone and email →

For anything other than a reservation (questions about shiatsu, press, business, gift vouchers, shiatsu by arrangement), please write to info@namikoshi-shiatsu.co.jp.

Before booking:

If you have a fever, a fracture or a recent injury, a tendency to bruise or bleed easily, have been drinking, are pregnant, or have a chronic or ongoing medical condition, please let us know when you book. Depending on your condition, we may ask you to postpone your session.

Staying at the Imperial Hotel?

We are on the Mezzanine of the Main Building. Take the stairs up from the lobby, or come up by elevator. The front desk or any hotel staff will show you the way if you ask for "Namikoshi Shiatsu".

From your room phone, please dial the outside line: 03-3581-7354.

Risks and side effects

After a session, the areas we have worked on may feel heavy or tired. Rarely, a spot where pressure was applied may be sore for a short time, or a small bruise may appear. Most of this settles within a few days; if it continues, or grows stronger, please call us.

We look forward to welcoming you to Namikoshi Shiatsu Salon, run by the founder’s family on the mezzanine floor of the Imperial Hotel Tokyo.

In April 2024 we moved from the Imperial Hotel Plaza (4F) to the Main Building, Mezzanine floor of the Imperial Hotel Tokyo.

  • Where no-shows, repeated late arrivals or repeated last minute cancellations continue, we may need to change the way we take your reservations. We would then offer a room subject to availability on the day rather than hold an advance booking.

How do I get there from Haneda or Narita?

From Haneda Airport, about 30–40 minutes by train or taxi; from Narita Airport, about 75–90 minutes. The salon is on the mezzanine floor of the Imperial Hotel Tokyo Main Building, a 1-minute walk from Hibiya Station (Exit A13). Times vary with traffic and connections.

Can I come today?

The surest way is to call +81-3-3581-7354 during opening hours (11:00-19:00 JST).
The salon is open every day, and the last session of any length starts at 19:00.

What if it is already past 7 p.m.?

We cannot take you the same evening, but the salon is open every day of the year. You can book for tomorrow, any time between 11:00 and 19:00 JST, including weekends and holidays.

What if I cannot find the salon inside the hotel?

If you cannot find us when you arrive at the Imperial Hotel, please ask any member of the hotel staff for Namikoshi Shiatsu Salon and they will show you the way.

You are also welcome to call +81-3-3581-7354.

How soon will I hear back if I book by email?

When you write to reservation@namikoshi-shiatsu.co.jp, an automatic reply confirming that your message has arrived is sent at once.
It is not a confirmed booking.
Our staff then reply with available times during opening hours, 11:00-19:00 JST.
If the automatic reply does not arrive, please check your spam folder; our email comes from @namikoshi-shiatsu.co.jp.
Emails that reach us during those hours are answered the same day wherever possible; emails that arrive outside them are answered in order from 11:00 JST.
If you have not heard from us by 19:00 JST the next day, please call +81-3-3581-7354.

Why is there no online booking?

We take no online bookings.
Availability is kept private, and each enquiry is answered by a person.
Telephone and email only.

Can I have a quiet, private session without being seen by other guests?

Yes. Every session takes place in a private room — fully private, a private room with a high ceiling, or a twin room — so you need not be concerned about other guests.
Whether to talk during the session is entirely up to you.
Practitioners holding the national Anma Massage Shiatsu Practitioner licence are bound by a legal duty of confidentiality, and we do not disclose who has visited the salon.

Can someone other than the guest make the reservation?

Yes. A family member, secretary or another person may call or email us on your behalf.
Please tell us the guest’s name, preferred date and time, and course.
The guest should arrive in person and give their name at reception.

I am pregnant, or I have a medical condition. Can I book?

Please talk to your doctor first, then let us know when you book and write it on the intake form on the day. Depending on your condition, we may suggest that you do not have a session. Shiatsu is practised under Japan’s national Anma Massage Shiatsu Practitioner licence; it is not a substitute for diagnosis or treatment by a physician.

Is there anything I should know before booking?

We have three rooms and a small team of practitioners, so we may not always be able to offer your preferred date and time.
Once a time is reserved, it is set aside for you alone.
If your plans change, a note by the day before lets us offer that slot to another guest who is waiting.
Many of our guests kindly do this for us.

Which traditional Japanese wellness practices can I experience in Tokyo?

Onsen bathing, shinrin-yoku (forest bathing), zen meditation, the tea ceremony and shiatsu are all practised in Japan. Shiatsu was established under that name by Tokujiro Namikoshi in 1925, and it entered the title of Japanese law in 1964. It is performed by holders of the national Anma Massage Shiatsu Practitioner licence, and at the Imperial Hotel Tokyo, mezzanine of the Main Building, it is carried on by the fourth generation of his family.

I’d like to experience uniquely Japanese wellness in Tokyo. How long does a shiatsu session take?

Shiatsu is a technique that originated in Japan in 1925. No equipment, oils or medication are used — only the fingers and palms. Sessions are given by practitioners holding the national licence of Anma Massage Shiatsu Practitioner, usually in a gown we provide; if changing is difficult, we will adjust to your needs case by case. Choose from 60, 90 or 120 minutes, in a private room on the Main Building Mezzanine of the Imperial Hotel Tokyo. Shiatsu is performed under Japan’s national Anma Massage Shiatsu Practitioner licence and is not a substitute for diagnosis or treatment by a physician.
