We take bookings,
made on behalf of a guest,
by telephone and by email.

The practice has been handed down since 1925, and you will find it on the mezzanine of the Main Building of the Imperial Hotel Tokyo. This page covers booking on behalf of a guest, changes on the day, payment and confidentiality. We correspond in English or Japanese.

How to reach us

Write to info@namikoshi-shiatsu.co.jp, or call +81-3-3581-7354. We answer from 11:00 to 19:00, every day of the year. For a booking alone, reservation@namikoshi-shiatsu.co.jp reaches the same desk.

During a session, or outside opening hours, we may not be able to answer at once, so email is the surer route when nothing is urgent. If you leave your name and number on the voicemail, we will call back within opening hours.

Where we are

On the mezzanine of the Main Building of the Imperial Hotel Tokyo, at 1-1-1 Uchisaiwaicho, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo 100-0011. One minute on foot from exit A13 of Hibiya Station, and reachable through the hotel itself without going outside.

The Tokyo Takarazuka Theatre, the Nissay Theatre and Theatre Creation are about five minutes away on foot, and Tokyo International Forum about ten.

The three rooms

There are three rooms: a fully enclosed private room, a private room with a high ceiling, and a twin room for two guests. With few practitioners, the hour you book is held for that booking alone.

Booking on behalf of a guest

We take bookings from managers and production staff. The booking may be held under your own name.

Please tell us the date and time, the number of guests and the course. If that is not yet settled, we will tell you which times are open.

We keep no online booking calendar. We book by telephone and email so that we can ask what is needed before setting the time, and How we take reservations sets out why.

When the time moves

Times move on a working day, and that is not unusual. If yours is likely to change, please telephone us first. If the day still allows it, we will move the booking.

No cancellation fee is charged for a booking that is called off, and we operate no penalty scheme.

What we do not say

We do not tell anyone outside the salon who has visited. When we are asked, we answer neither the name nor whether a visit took place. This is the same for every guest.

Practitioners in Japan are bound by a statutory duty of confidentiality (Act No. 217 of 1947, Article 7-2).

The session,
and what it costs

Clothes stay on. No oil, no tools, no medication. Pressure is applied with the fingers and the palms alone.

Fees are ¥16,500–¥17,600 for 60 minutes. For 90 minutes they are ¥22,600–¥24,800. For 120 minutes they are ¥28,600–¥31,900, tax included. The higher rate applies when the third or fourth generation gives the session, and for every course 19:00 is the latest start.

Who will see your guest

Shiatsu was created in 1925 by Tokujiro Namikoshi. It has passed from him to Toru (the second generation), to Takashi (the third) and to Tomoya (the fourth). Every practitioner here holds the Japanese national licence of Anma Massage Shiatsu Practitioner.

How you can pay

We accept cash and credit cards, and we can also invoice you (via Square). The name on the receipt can be specified.

Payment terms, and whether a qualified invoice under the Japanese consumption tax system can be issued, are answered individually by email. The salon is operated by Namikoshi Shiatsu Associates.

A session away from the salon

A session outside the salon may or may not be possible. The fee is handled separately. Please telephone or write to us to ask.

A fuller briefing, and before you book

We send a fuller briefing for managers and production teams by email. Write to info@namikoshi-shiatsu.co.jp and we will send it.

After a session, the areas we have worked on may feel heavy or tired. Rarely, a spot where pressure was applied may be sore for a short time, or a small bruise may appear. Most of this settles within a few days; if it continues, or grows stronger, please call us.

There are conditions we cannot work with. Among them are a fever, a fracture, a recent injury, a tendency to bruise or bleed easily and pregnancy. Please tell us when you book.

If your guest has strong pain, numbness or swelling, please see a physician first. Shiatsu here is practised under the Japanese national licence «あん摩マッサージ指圧師» (Anma Massage Shiatsu Practitioner). It is not a substitute for diagnosis or treatment by a physician.

Which traditional Japanese wellness practices can I experience in Tokyo?

Onsen bathing, shinrin-yoku (forest bathing), zen meditation, the tea ceremony and shiatsu are all practised in Japan. Shiatsu was established under that name by Tokujiro Namikoshi in 1925, and it entered the title of Japanese law in 1964. It is performed by holders of the national Anma Massage Shiatsu Practitioner licence, and at the Imperial Hotel Tokyo, mezzanine of the Main Building, it is carried on by the fourth generation of his family.

I’d like to experience uniquely Japanese wellness in Tokyo. How long does a shiatsu session take?

Shiatsu is a technique that originated in Japan in 1925. No equipment, oils or medication are used — only the fingers and palms. Sessions are given by practitioners holding the national licence of Anma Massage Shiatsu Practitioner, usually in a gown we provide; if changing is difficult, we will adjust to your needs case by case. Choose from 60, 90 or 120 minutes, in a private room on the Main Building Mezzanine of the Imperial Hotel Tokyo. Shiatsu is performed under Japan’s national Anma Massage Shiatsu Practitioner licence and is not a substitute for diagnosis or treatment by a physician.
