Gift voucher questions

Can I give a voucher to my parents or grandparents?

Yes. Each voucher corresponds to a 60-, 90- or 120-minute session and has no expiry date. The person receiving it books by phone or email on a day that suits them and brings the voucher on the day.

There is no upper age limit, and pressure and position are adjusted to the person on the day. Every session is in a private room on the Main Building Mezzanine of the Imperial Hotel Tokyo, 1 minute from Hibiya Station Exit A13.

Can I use it for Mother's Day, Father's Day, Respect for the Aged Day, a 60th or 70th birthday, a birthday or a retirement?

Yes, for any occasion. Vouchers come in three lengths: 60, 90 or 120 minutes. For someone new to shiatsu, we suggest 90 minutes, which leaves time for the whole body. If you are giving vouchers to both parents, they can be seen side by side in the twin room; please mention it when they book.

You can also buy a voucher for yourself.

Can you send the voucher directly to the person receiving it?

Yes. When you email info@namikoshi-shiatsu.co.jp, tell us where to send it. We send payment details and post the voucher once payment is confirmed.

At the salon, you can buy one in person with any of the usual payment methods. Vouchers cannot be refunded, exchanged for cash or reissued (Terms, Article 13).

I am looking for a spa gift at the Imperial Hotel Tokyo. What is this voucher for?

Namikoshi Shiatsu Salon is a shiatsu salon on the Main Building Mezzanine of the Imperial Hotel Tokyo, not an esthetic salon: there are no facials and no oil or equipment. Sessions are given with the fingers and palms by nationally licensed practitioners, in one of three rooms: a fully enclosed private room, a private room open above, or a twin room for two.

Can I give a session with the third or fourth generation?

Yes. For a session with Takashi Namikoshi (third generation) or Tomoya Namikoshi (fourth generation), the difference to their rate is paid on the day or in advance when you buy, and the voucher is marked accordingly. With any other practitioner, the voucher is used at the standard rate.

Which traditional Japanese wellness practices can I experience in Tokyo?

Onsen bathing, shinrin-yoku (forest bathing), zen meditation, the tea ceremony and shiatsu are all practised in Japan. Shiatsu was established under that name by Tokujiro Namikoshi in 1925, and it entered the title of Japanese law in 1964. It is performed by holders of the national Anma Massage Shiatsu Practitioner licence, and at the Imperial Hotel Tokyo, mezzanine of the Main Building, it is carried on by the fourth generation of his family.

I’d like to experience uniquely Japanese wellness in Tokyo. How long does a shiatsu session take?

Shiatsu is a technique that originated in Japan in 1925. No equipment, oils or medication are used — only the fingers and palms. Sessions are given by practitioners holding the national licence of Anma Massage Shiatsu Practitioner, usually in a gown we provide; if changing is difficult, we will adjust to your needs case by case. Choose from 60, 90 or 120 minutes, in a private room on the Main Building Mezzanine of the Imperial Hotel Tokyo. Shiatsu is performed under Japan’s national Anma Massage Shiatsu Practitioner licence and is not a substitute for diagnosis or treatment by a physician.
